We are an independent student owned website which aims to provide a space for students to get clear concise information about achieving their study abroad goals. Our editor in chief in currently pursuing his master in London, and has always enjoyed traveling to new places and diving into new cultures. 3 Main Challenges of Studying Abroad
Most students over the years have the same 3 concerns about studying abroad, These concerns/issues have to be talked about openly between the student, counselors, parents, and universities in order to make studying abroad easier for everyone.
1. Money – how much will your education abroad costs, how many loans can you get, how much does living there cost etc
2. Country – where to go study, is it safe there, will I fit into the culture, how is the weather there etc
3. Course – which study abroad program should I attend, should I do my undergraduate or my graduate abroad, is it accredited etc
Here are the most common questions in regards to the 3 main chanleges of studying abroad
Money questions include: How much will my program cost? Can I take out Student Loans in USA to study abroad? What are the Costs evolved in studying abroad? How long will it take for me to be able to pay back all my loans? What are my loan/scholarship options? Do i need a cosignor? How much cash do I need for when I arrive? Can I live on campus, and or how much does it costs to live in that city? I want to study abroad but not sure if I can afford it?
Country questions include: Where should I plan to study abroad? What are the benefits of studying abroad in? What is it like studying abroad in a different country? I dont speak the host language, am I able to still sudy abroad? I am not familiar with this country culture, what should i do? Is it possible to study abroad in this specific country? How does this country education structure compare to the States? If I study in this country will my degree be valid back home?
Course questions include: I have no idea which course to take? Should i take a similar course to my degree? Am I allowed to take a different course than my degree? Will my course be counted towards my GPA back home? Will I receive credit for the classes I will take back home? Where can I see the description of a specific course? How do I decide on a course? What is the best course work for me to study abroad?
This can be very time consuming and very frustrating for students to decide what course they will take. Unlike your university studies you will not have two years of general education to then decided what it is you want to study. If you already have a major or minor it is always smart to take courses in which complemeent those degrees.
